Olumide Aje, Program Manager
On behalf of Communities In Schools of North Texas, I would like to thank the wonderful ladies from Faithful Friends for going out of their way to provide school supplies for students at Calhoun and Myers Middle Schools in Denton ISD on August 20. The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. With the efforts of individuals/groups like Faithful Friends, it helps me as a Site Coordinator to do my job in ways many people don’t imagine. The start of the school year is a very stressful time for both my students and their parents as many of them are new to the area and are trying to get adjusted to completely new surroundings.
Many students come into my office worried about not having school supplies, and the relief/joy on their faces when I tell them “don’t worry, I’ve got supplies for you” is completely indescribable. That student is now able to walk into class with their heads held high and ready to learn instead of being embarrassed that they have nothing on the first day of school. There are countless stories like this that my colleagues with CISNT and I encounter across Denton, Lewisville, Northwest, Lake Dallas, Little Elm and Bridgeport ISD. It is only with the help of groups like Faithful Friends that we are able to fill the needs of our children.
Once again, thank you!!
Faithful Friends is made up of women who attend Denton Bible Church and live at Robson Ranch who meet monthly at various sites for food, fellowship and service.
