The new RR Trivia Club premiered its first Trivia Night on Jan. 12 in the clubhouse. We proved that Trivia Night is as popular as ever, with a sold-out event, selling 275 tickets within the first 45 minutes on Jan. 4!

Trivia buffs, long-time players, and many newcomers made for a full house of 300 participants at 30 tables, eager to play and enjoy a fun evening. Numerous door prizes totaling $1,900 were awarded throughout the evening, with a cash bar and sweet and savory snacks for all to enjoy. Prizes included gift cards to the Wildhorse Grill and Pro Shop and free Trivia Night tickets.

Our enthusiastic congratulations to all the winners: The first-place team was Tip of the Tongue, with each member receiving a $50 gift card; taking second place was The Right Stuff, each awarded a $25 gift card; and Terrors took third place, each winning a $20 gift card. Due to a last-minute challenge, which changed the placement order, we subsequently awarded the fourth-place team, Lucky 8+2, $20 gift cards—congratulations!

Our sincere thanks to everyone who participated. We appreciate your patience as we learn and improve. Following the game, we received plenty of positive feedback, constructive criticism, and suggestions for new categories and rules.

The club will hold Trivia Night once per quarter. Mark your calendars for our remaining games in 2023: May 4, July 20, and Oct. 5. All will be held on Thursday evenings (doors open at 6:30 p.m. and game play begins at 7 p.m.). Future ticket sales will be held a couple weeks prior to each event date and announced through the HOA Clubs & Activities email and the HOA Message Board. Tickets are $15, which you may purchase as a team of 10 or individually. We hope you’ll join us.

Just for fun … here are three sample questions from January. Answers are listed at the end of this article.

1. Category: Food: What is the #1 selling cookie in the United States?

2. Category: Games: What is the only King in a deck of cards without a mustache?

3. Category: Sports: What year did the Major League Baseball players go on strike, resulting in no baseball World Series?

Trivia Night has historically been a popular event here in RR, but the HOA could no longer conduct the game due to the level of prep time and effort required. The force behind the new RR Trivia Club is Linda Smith, an active, well-known RR resident since 2007. A trivia lover, Linda had fielded a Trivia Night team since 2014 when Althea Parent started the event. When Linda learned the HOA would no longer host future games, she set out to form a small team, and together they launched the Trivia Club in November of 2022. Linda serves as club president, Susan Volgamore as treasurer and official scorekeeper during Trivia Night, and Erminja Maganja as VP.

We wish to extend our thanks to Karen and Mike Herzig who managed set-up and door prizes; to Shelbi Berg, RR activities director, for helping us through our first event; to Judy Sale and Heather Hodson who helped with set-up and other duties; and special thanks to Darryl Williams and Jay Vandenbree from the Classic Rock Club who offered considerable guidance and lessons-learned based on their experiences putting on large events.
