United Way is seeking VITA volunteers

Mike Weaver

The United Way of Denton County needs volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for tax year 2017. VITA is a free tax preparation service for low to moderately low-income families and individuals. IRS trained and certified volunteers prepare taxes for families and individuals who earn $53,000 or less. The program is provided by United Way of Denton County.

No prior experience is necessary; there is an opportunity for everyone! Volunteers are needed for the following positions: tax preparers, intake processors and translators. Volunteers who would like to become tax preparers will need to become IRS certified.

All volunteers will participate in free classroom and online IRS training sessions and workshops. Training sessions will take place in November and December in 13 hour block sessions.

To apply to become a volunteer, please visit unitedwaydenton.org/vita.
