What began as a way to pass the time during the pandemic has grown into a thriving North Texas small business dedicated to helping people keep their favorite tools performing at their best.
Joe Haben, owner of JK Sharpening Solutions, discovered his passion for sharpening in 2020. Like many people spending more time at home, Joe noticed something he had long overlooked—his kitchen knives had become chipped and dull, his pocket knives no longer held an edge, and even his household scissors struggled to cut.
Rather than replacing them, Joe decided to learn the increasingly rare craft of professional sharpening.
He immersed himself in the trade, spending countless hours studying sharpening techniques and practicing on every blade he could find. Along the way, there were plenty of lessons learned, including more than a few knives that didn’t survive the learning process. But persistence paid off, and before long Joe had developed the skills and confidence to sharpen knives, scissors, and tools for family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even patients. (By profession, Joe is a Registered Nurse.)
As word spread, so did the requests. Encouraged by the positive response, Joe realized his hobby had the potential to become a business. With the unwavering support of his wife, best friend, and now business partner, Courtney Marino, JK Sharpening Solutions was born.
Today, the couple serves customers throughout North Texas at local farmers markets and community events. Their reputation has grown through repeat customers and referrals—something they consider the greatest compliment they can receive. They believe that quality workmanship, honesty, and personal service are the foundation of every successful business relationship.
Whether it’s a cherished chef’s knife, garden pruners, kitchen scissors, pocket knives, or other cutting tools, Joe takes pride in restoring each item to peak performance, often extending its useful life for years to come. Although JK Sharpening Solutions is still a growing business, Joe and Courtney remain committed to providing exceptional service while supporting the local communities they serve.
