TX-Ture Farm in Aubrey is a small family farm that produces alpacas, lavender, honey, Christmas trees, and memorable experiences, and that is exactly what we had at the Rockin’ Red Ranchers April event. A brief introduction by the owner to the farm and about alpacas included the variety of products that are made from their fleece.
Yarn, clothing, and sweet alpaca stuffed animals are all available in their gift shop, along with a variety of lavender items. We also learned just how gentle alpacas are and why they are different from llamas.
We then headed out to meet the alpacas face-to-face and get paired up for walking around a half-mile area of the farm, passing the lavender fields and Christmas trees. We were given feed bags of treats, which really helped encourage them along. Snow White, Marcy, and our other walking partners were so sweet and seemed to enjoy the walk as much as we did!
After returning to the corral, the feeding frenzy began! All the alpacas were untethered and allowed to enjoy the treats we had. Since they only have a few bottom teeth and a soft palette on top, there was no fear of getting bitten. Some alpacas couldn’t get enough of the treats, which allowed us to get up close and personal for a quick hug or head butt.
We finished out the day at the Prairie House Restaurant in Cross Roads where we enjoyed the good feelings of the day over barbecue and other spicy and delicious food.
Many thanks to our hostesses for a fun and unique event!
