August was a busy month for the Women’s Golf Association. Unseasonably cooler weather brought out many of our “fair weather” players to participate in league events. In addition to our regular play days we hosted two special events for the Robson Ranch lady golfers. On August 16 we hosted a scramble with the Wildhorse Lady Niners. We had a great turnout, and everyone enjoyed this team event. Our second Member/Member tournament of the season was held on August 24. This was a low net format with two-person teams divided into four flights. The following teams won first place in flights A through D respectively: Paula Bull and Joyce Marshall, Gale Hicks and Linda Klovans, Gabie Bull and Sallye Ortiz, and Susan Miloser and Sarah Ray. Second place winners included Pat Sands and Alice Wright, Ok Cha Cummings and Victoria Pettigrew, Betty Lou Knowles and Juan Del Tillman, and Sonja Reed and Ryoko Stevlingson. We also had door prizes for players who did not win in the tournament.
The WGA also hosts a Couples Play Day usually held on the last Monday of each month from March through October. On August 22 couples traveled to Fossil Creek Golf Course. Winning couples for the day were Sallye and Gil Ortiz, Cyndi Stampf and Pete Ahrens, Alice and Bill Wright, Shannon and Ted Dunson, and Susan Miloser and Larry Bowes. There are two more outings scheduled for this season. On September 26 we will travel to Muenster to play Turtle Creek Golf Course. This is a fun little course out in the country with a greens fee of only $20. The highlight of the day is a stop at a family German restaurant for lunch after golf. The final date for Couples Golf is October 24 at Champions Circle Golf Course. Participants in Couples Golf must be members of the WGA and MGA. For more information regarding the next play day, please contact Alice Wright at 214-906-3994 or Bill Wright at 940-600-0869.
Two major tournaments are coming up in the near future. Our Hoofs ‘N Heels invitational tournament and Robson Cup/Club Championship will be held in September and October. Stay tuned to the Pioneer Press for tournament results.
