The April luncheon was a lively program complete with an Easter Bonnet Contest and songs serenaded by the “Avenue C” All-Female Vocal Jazz Ensemble, the premier vocal jazz ensemble within the University of North Texas Division of Jazz Studies in the College of Music. The Ballroom doors opened at 11:00 a.m., and members and guests located their seats in anticipation of this unique program.
The greeters were Nancy Myers, Mary Ann Carroll, Nancy Garre, Geraldine Gawle, Cherry Tillman and Sally Baggott. They did a great job escorting new members to the “new members” tables. Every month tables are reserved for new members so they have a chance to sit together and have a chance to get to know each other better. They are also joined by current members as well. This endeavor was initiated so new members feel welcome as soon as possible. The April table decorations included colorful spring centerpieces featuring bright flowers and Easter eggs. The table decorators were Theresa Peoples, Kasey Miller, Diane Eoff, Karen Brannon, Bobbi Hardt, Monika Keenan and Sandy Conwell.
Sharon Foy, president, kicked off the luncheon by welcoming the first-time attendees and guests and announced the club’s membership is now up to 416 members.
Next, Sharon opened the Easter Bonnet Contest! The ladies who wanted to enter the contest modeled their Easter bonnet creations while the membership voted by applause. Prizes were awarded to the following winners: the Most Elegant winner was Melody Rowley, the Most Creative winner was Judy Riffel, and the Most Vintage winner was Jean Talley. They were all marvelous!
