The Women’s Club monthly luncheon programs continue to update, enlighten, and entertain!
As a recap, the November program was delightfully enlightening. President Nancy Caldwell called the meeting to order and welcomed all attendees. She announced the club now has 517 members. Nancy thanked Sandra Mankowich, Nominating Committee chair, and her team. The 2024 nominees for the board of directors were unanimously elected. They are President Lisa Olson, President-elect Donna DeBoever, past President Nancy Garre, Treasurer Nancy Nix, Secretary Pam Franks, Vice President Membership Chris Anderson, Vice President Programs Pam Dotson, Luncheon Coordinator Candace Anderson, and Parliamentarian Rose Depoe.
Lisa Olson introduced new members, first-time attendees, and guests. Shirley Monge celebrated November birthdays. The birthday drawing winner for a free lunch was Diana Buchanan. Donna Gardner noted that the Charity of the Month was the Denton Community Food Center, and luncheon donations totaled $660, which was the largest to date. The winner of Share Our Blessings to receive a certificate for a free lunch was Maureen Leher.
Pam Franks encouraged everyone to attend the Home for the Holidays Tour. Wine Pulls were held at two of the homes, and proceeds benefited the Denton Community Food Center.
Chris Anderson reported that the Holiday Market was a huge success! She presented a check to Wendy McGee, executive director of Our Daily Bread, for net Market proceeds in the amount of $14,854.67.
The board of directors presented a surprise gift to all the members, using their Christmas-themed wagons, Santa hats, and bells while being serenaded by our entertainment, Joyful Sound Quarter. Everyone was quite surprised.
Gayle Lee announced that the December program was provided by Theatre Denton. Directors Buster Maloney and Donna Trammell, along with cast members from Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, would perform.
The November program included the Joyful Sound Quartet who performed a lively variation of barbershop harmonies and other music grounded in various genres of gospel, contemporary, and swing. It was a great performance and encouraged the audience to sing along at several points in the program. A great time was had by all!
Announcing the January program! The January luncheon is Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. We are delighted to host Chris Whatley with Lagniappe Productions. He will share “The History of Rodeo & Some Tall Tales.” Chris is currently involved in the production of live performances and film work. This will be a very unique program!
