The Women’s Golf Association began the 2016 season on Tuesday, March 1. Twenty-one ladies braved the strong north Texas wind for the first organized golf play day in 2016. The wind made golfing just a little “tricky,” but it was fun getting back on the course with all our golfing friends. Although all players should have been given an endurance award for tackling the wind, we did have 12 actual winners. Our first winners for 2016 included: first low gross, Ok Cha Cummings, Betty Lou Knowles and Barb Stephen; second low gross, Carole Babcock, Carol Pniewski and Alice Wright; first low net, Judy Klenz, Jeanie Martinez and Ryoko Stevlingson; second low net, Barb Bennett, Judy Markley and Joyce Marshall.
Since we like to socialize almost as much as we like to play golf, the real kick-off for 2016 was held March 23 at the beautiful home of club vice-president Donna Phillips. We had a terrific turnout for wine, snacks and conversation. The event was organized by Diane Bent, WGA president, and Donna Phillips to encourage all our members to meet new members and get reacquainted with friends we may not have seen lately. Diane and Donna greeted everyone as they entered the house and presented new members with flower leis to welcome them to our club. Guy Bent and Jerry Phillips did an outstanding job serving as bartenders. Too bad they forgot to put out a tip jar! Diane introduced the board of directors and we each gave a brief overview of our responsibilities. She then welcomed new members in attendance who gave us a little information about themselves.
We are looking forward to a great year of golf and getting to know our new members. Remember to check out our website, rrwga.weebly.com, for current information and photos of our golf activities.
