Yard of the Month

Brenda and Dan Bedinger

Erminja Maganja, Garden Club Publicity Chair

This month, Letha Straub, our Garden Club Yard of the Month chair, selected the beautiful yard of Dan and Brenda Bedinger at 9400 Grandview Drive to receive this honorary award.

I was fortunate to accompany Letha on her visit with the Bedingers and learned they are Robson Ranch, Texas, pioneers, having moved here 20 years ago—the 53rd homeowners in what was then a brand-new community. They recounted seeing coyotes routinely walking along Robson dirt roads.

After a decade of almost daily golf, Dan traded in his golf clubs for garden tools and set out to create an oasis. Using his background in pool construction, he designed flagstone pathways, a backyard pond with waterfall, free-standing fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen to create a cool, welcoming backyard retreat. Dan can be found working in his yard almost any day of the week. He is hands-on with planting and maintenance of the yard. Plants include oakleaf hydrangea, canna, several hibiscus, crepe myrtles, oaks, Mexican petunia (locally called Texas Star), and a variety of potted plants that dot the yard. The front yard features a lovely sculpture of a girl swinging a golf club and a shaded patio—perfect to enjoy a cool drink and wave at passing neighbors.

Brenda and Dan are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year! Please stop by to see their lovely yard at the corner of Grandview and Hallmark, and congratulate them on their good fortune.

The Garden Club is on summer break and will start up again in September. All RR residents are invited to join. We meet the third Monday of the month in the RR clubhouse at 10:30 a.m., with occasional field trips. Annual membership is $10 per family unit. Please look for HOA emails for details of our next meeting on Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. We hope you’ll join us!
