It’s officially the holiday season friends! It’s the time of year of merry wonder and opening our houses up to friends and loved ones. With all the traffic entertaining brings into our homes, it is crucial to make sure you and your home are prepared. If this is the holiday season you volunteered to host the entire extended family at your home, get excited. We’ve come up with a few helpful tips and tricks to make your home as inviting and cozy as possible for your guests this season!

The first step to making your home extra cozy this season is layering the right materials. Picture it with me friend. After hours of traveling to make it to the holiday festivities, your loved ones want nothing more than a comfortable place to rest. Whether it is in the family room or the bedroom, layering soft fluffy fabrics will happily welcome them. Instead of making large changes for the holiday season, focus on the small items you can easily change out to achieve this. For instance, try plush velvet pillows on the sofa or guest bed for your loved ones to cuddle up with paired with a fur throw. Snuggling up by the fire, wrapped in a fluffy fur throw exudes cozy luxury. If you have a more contemporary, minimalistic style try a chunky knit throw instead of fur. The heavy knit will bring texture to the room and still bring in welcoming warmth to your guests.

Bringing warmth and coziness into your home is more than just switching out the small decorative items at eye level. It is about encompassing the room fully. Let’s not leave those windows bare, friend. Simply having a soft texture on the windows makes your room more inviting and cozier. Whether it is a fully dressed pair of draperies or a soft shade to create a soft glow when the sun hits just right, having a bit of softness on your windows will do wonders.

Lastly, think about the lighting in your space. The softer the better. Instead of having your usual tabletop lamps in the family room, consider switching them out for something that creates a softer glow. Softer lighting creates the illusion of a smaller, more personal space. This is perfect for encouraging more intimate conversations among family members during the holiday season. Think of the stories of holiday’s past that can be shared in your cozy little space. Softening the lighting to encourage conversation will help loved ones create special memories and make them feel at ease in your home.
