Material Girls just graduated 10 new quilters from their fourth annual Beginning Quilting class. Ten students attended six weeks to learn the basics of quilting. At the end of the class each student proudly displayed her completed table runner. Instructor Marguerite Rose proudly remarked that this class had perfect attendance. The class was organized by Marguerite Rose and Paula Saunders. The students each received a notebook containing the pattern and various instructional aids. Each student was also assigned a “mentor” who provided individual instruction and assistance.
On March 7, twelve Material Girls took a train ride to the Dallas Quilt Show. The train ride was definitely an adventure, but we all agreed that it was so much fun we would do it again. The only problem we faced was how to get all our “bargains” back on the train for the ride home. Fortunately there was plenty of space on the train because we were “loaded with bargains.” Kathleen Marrou organized the train ride and managed to see that all 12 of her “wards” had a delightful time. We applaud her efforts and extend a hearty thank you.
Since the first of the year, the Material Girls have also completed 137 pillowcases for CASA, a Judy Niemeyer paper piecing class and recently started an Introduction to Applique Class.
The Material Girls meet every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Discussion of club business and Show and Tell begin at 1:00 p.m. Anyone interested in quilting or sewing is invited to join us. Every week brings a new lesson and inspiration. For more information, contact Ruth Loyd at [email protected], Paula Saunders at [email protected], or Marguerite Rose at [email protected].
