Two highly respected and well-known local dog trainers were the guest speakers at the Happy Tails Dog Club meeting on June 10. Karen Ehler (Karen’s Elite Dog Training) and Kim Gaffey (Gaffey Dog Training) spoke about identifying stress signals in dogs, especially during new situations and in encounters with other dogs. The presentation was informative, with many members learning about what their dogs are trying to tell them.
On June 24 the Happy Tails Dog Club held the first-ever Patriotic Pet Pictures. This was a fundraiser for the club and the perfect opportunity for dog owners to show their pride in their dogs and in our red, white, and blue! Everything went smoothly with the help of board members Donna Steibel, Sandy McAfee, Char Niemi, Kim Grasser, and Lorraine Wilson and volunteers Melissa Crabill, Nancy Buenzow, and Rebecca Laschinger.
At our July 8 meeting, fellow Robson Ranch resident and club member Eileen Pierson was our guest speaker. A board member and advocate for Apollo Support & Rescue in Justin, Eileen is passionate about this organization and what they do for animals. Founded in 2012, Apollo Support & Rescue has been working to save thousands of animals that have found themselves alone and in distress. Abused, neglected, abandoned, or orphaned, their efforts to give these animals another chance are unchallenged. They also proudly support our local community through vaccination clinics and education.
Members, mark your calendar now for our Saturday, Aug. 12, meeting, as Happy Tails will be holding a Bark & Brag event. This will be an ideal opportunity for club members to get together and show off pictures of their dogs and brag about how wonderful they are!
Membership in the Happy Tails Dog Club is $10 a year per household, and renewal only $5 a year! Meetings are held monthly on the second Saturday in the CATC building, Room 103, from 10:20 a.m. to noon. Happy Tails Dog Club exists for the purpose of improving the quality of life for our companion animals and we are dedicated to the education, socialization, and activities of our members.
