As the spring bocce season marches on, players at Robson Ranch are embracing the game with enthusiasm, despite occasional weather challenges and cancellations. The camaraderie and joy of playing under open skies has been heightened by the welcoming atmosphere at The Turn where refreshing beverages, including alcoholic options, are served during all bocce games Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Drink prices at The Turn are less than in the bar, with special “Happy Hour” pricing for bocce members. Members can also savor menu items while indulging in the timeless pleasure of bocce.
With a robust membership of over 1,400 players in the Robson Ranch Bocce Club, the club has introduced unique bocce-themed T-shirts available for purchase. Crafted from a comfortable CVC poly/cotton blend and sporting a Gildan Softstyle blue mist hue, these crew neck T-shirts are priced at $20, tax included. Orders can be placed through email with RRDBC Director-at-Large Nancy Tastle for future pick-up, reflecting the growing team spirit among players.
In the realm of competitive play, teams are reminded of the minimum and maximum player requirements for each three-game match. A team must field no fewer than six (6) players and no more than twelve (12) to avoid forfeiting games. Captains are encouraged to maintain a fair rotation of players across games, with the flexibility to recruit additional players from the subs list or other divisions as needed, with a cap of two substitute players per match.
Team captains must also play all their players equal time over the three games in a match, which can be difficult. There have been many questions about how to schedule play time for several scenarios of players, so our scheduler and statistician John Humphries has built a matrix to help take the work out of scheduling players across the three games in a match. All these scenarios are located on our website, and captains can open and print off pdf images of each scenario. Many thanks to John for creating these. They are a tremendous help to team captains!
All team captains must send copies of the fully filled-out score sheet to John, our trusty statistician, after each match is completed! Blank score sheets are available from our website in both pdf and Excel versions. Many team captains use the Excel score sheet and fill in all their team players on it and simply circle the players who play in each game! Let us all help John out by getting accurate score sheets to him quickly!
Bocce is a wonderful team sport that can be played by anyone. No specific skills are needed other than the willingness to throw the bocce ball in pursuit of getting as close to the pallino as possible.
