Sondra Clifton, Marcia Elving, and Joan Pursley, recently retired members of the subcommittee of the Facilities Committee that oversees day-to-day operations of the Robson Library, were thanked for their service at a luncheon at Hillside Restaurant. Both Sondra and Marcia had served on the subcommittee for five years, and Joan had served for seven years. All three volunteered in the library: Sondra for 12 years, Joan for 9, and Marcia for 7.

They were all members of the library’s Collections Committee. Sondra was also on the Volunteers Coordination Committee and was responsible for finding substitutes for regular volunteers when they were on vacation, sick, or otherwise could not staff their shifts. Marcia kept all the computers in the library functioning, offered training on the facility’s public computers, and updated the www.RobsonLibrary.org website. Joan wrote many Pioneer Press articles about the library, organized the Robson Author Forums, and for three years served as the committee’s vice chair.

Sondra and her husband Gil, a past chair of the library subcommittee and a longtime library volunteer, moved from Robson to be closer to their granddaughter.

Marcia resigned to make time for her new volunteer job as chair of the Living Well Committee. However, she continues to volunteer in the library and will troubleshoot the computers when needed.

Joan resigned to make space for new committee members. “Like all volunteers, I am passionate about our library,” she says. “However, I am a firm believer in term limits and felt it was past time to go. Plus, having worked for a year with the subcommittee’s new chair Ralph Berry, I knew the library was in good hands.” She continues to volunteer in the library and serves on the Collections Committee, focusing on the jigsaw puzzles.

Located in the CATC building, the library is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Volunteer staff is available to help patrons on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you do not have the PDK app or card for entry into the library, you can get one at the HOA office in the clubhouse.
