the handmade faux tile card

We live in a heavily digitized world. Emails, texts, Facebook, Instagram. It’s hard to believe the first email was written in 1971 but it wasn’t until decades later that emails became a standard form of communication. For eons, letters and cards were the norm in sending and receiving messages and an email was the odd one of the bunch. Now texting and multiple social media platforms dominate our communications, kicking the ole’ letter and card out of the driver’s seat.
And isn’t it a true surprise when receiving a handmade card knowing someone took the time to choose, write, and mail a card specifically for you? Just like the “Faux Tile” card created by Sassy Stampers member Diana Krug.
A faux tile card is a handmade card technique that mimics the appearance of a tiled kitchen back-splash or mosaic, using scored cardstock to create a grid pattern. The effect is achieved by scoring horizontal and vertical lines on cardstock, then stamping images over them to make the stamped design look like it is on tiles separated by grout. It’s easy to create and adds a fun element to your design.
So, what do you think? The next time you want to reach out to someone, instead of clicking “send email”, carve out a few minutes in your busy schedule, get out your stamps and paper, and craft some simple cards and get them into the mail? The very nature of a personalized card requires little more time to express love or congratulations than sending an email or text. Reconnect with your friends and family and give them the joy of receiving a card by putting big emotions into a small package.
Even better yet, come join Sassy Stampers in the CATC on the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. and let us support your creative adventure.
