The Support Our Troops (SOT) golf tournament was a wonderful fun event that was a complete sell-out and a great success. We had beautiful weather and great enthusiasm from all the participants. We thank all of those who came to golf on April 24, as well as those sponsors who supported our annual fundraiser to make sure the troops we support receive our help. There were prizes for the golfers who did well, as well as wonderful auction items people could bid on and purchase. We also had a wonderful and talented volunteer this year on our “buy-up” hole. Golfers could pay $20 for their foursome to have our Robson golf pro, Tyler Clark, to hit the tee-shot for them on a Par-5 hole, 416 yards from the red tees. Everyone chipped in, and Tyler sent the ball way up and close to the green! Thank you Tyler. There were so many volunteers that worked hard on planning and preparations for the day, as well as those that worked on the day of the tournament. The Robson Ranch sales office is always on board with supporting Support Our Troops (SOT). They covered the cost of breakfast for all golfers as well as golf and lunch costs for any active-duty military who played in the tournament. Everyone also enjoyed a wonderful lunch served on the patio. Thank you so much to our wonderful Robson staff for all the support for this event. It was great as always to have all-women’s teams playing, as well as golfers from surrounding communities who come to play and support our troops every year.
We now support 108 troops on our roster. Thirteen are presently deployed. We shipped 20 boxes of goodies this past month that were sent to Korea and Belgium. We cannot send boxes to troops in harm’s way. We sent beautiful cards made by our Sassy Stampers to our troops with messages written by our members.
Flags will be going up along the main road leading to the clubhouse on May 16 for Armed Services Day and on May 25 for Memorial Day. We also offer flag kits for display in your yard. They will be installed by an SOT member. The flag kits cost $60 (we only use U.S. made flags). If you already have a flagpole installed and just need a new flag, they can be ordered for $30, and they will be delivered to you. The person to call to order is Quinn Sowell at 940-231-9647.
Bricks honoring Veterans are for sale, and they will be installed in the Veterans Park. Please contact the Brick Committee at: bricks@supportourtroops.com. Forms are available in the drawer under the Tribute Book near Shelbi’s desk in the Clubhouse.
You do not have to be a Veteran to join SOT. We meet on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Lone Star Room of the Clubhouse. We really look forward to meeting you.
