Drawing from Nature’s Abundant Blessings

Rosie Kuhn Bouse

Who isn’t camera ready when ambling through a botanical garden, hiking a lush verdant forest trail, or watching a golden sunset glimmer on a favorite beach? All around us, nature calls to behold the glory of creation. Psalm 104 states poignantly, “The earth is clothed with majesty and glory!”

At any social gathering at Robson Ranch, folks delight in hearing of one another’s travels to exotic places. Summer is surely a popular time to get away for family vacations at a lake house or heading to the northern states to hopefully escape the Texas heat. Instead of relying solely on photos for future fun in the Indian Paintbrush Room 103, why not pack the tools to draw or paint on site? As you ‘canvas’ a new environment, a ‘brush’ with nature and her exquisite ‘palette’ might spark inspiration for a future masterpiece.

Paint and Palette’s talented President, Judy Riffel, was very cleverly inspired to embellish her nature painting The Life of a Tree with natural tree bark. She generously invited folks to feel as well as look at her unique creation at our recent Nature’s Spring Palette Exhibition.

Artist Judy Hilderbrand from the Paint and Palette Club recently gave a delightful two part class on making silk paper. Those in attendance started with hanks of silk and through several steps, each participant produced a lovely framable panel. The end product could be used as a center for a decorator pillow, a book cover or made into exquisite stationery or book marks. The panel could also be tastefully sewn onto a favorite jacket, jumper or gown for a designer touch. Much wisdom is drawn from a favorite Chinese proverb—With patience, a mulberry leaf becomes a lovely silk gown.

Our next Exhibition is being planned for October and entrants from the club will be exhibiting creations related to Seasons of Art. Dates and times will appear in future articles and HOA notifications. If you are artistically inclined (any level or media) and are looking for a club, you will find camaraderie and talent galore in the Paint and Palette Club. Members congregate in the Indian Paintbrush Room 103 in the CATC on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to take a tour and talk with members. For the membership fee of $10, classes are generally free and members are given priority to all classes. Participating in some form of creativity has been proven to benefit one’s health. This summer, amidst the beauty of nature, let us take the time and opportunity to be inspired by the glory of creation. Then, ‘Aspire to inspire’ others with your own masterpiece!
