Discussion of the Ray Bradbury classic Fahrenheit 451 to be held in September.
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Plan to be in the Robson Library for the next Friends of the Library book talk. Lorraine Wilson will present the discussion on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel, Fahrenheit 451.
Lorraine is on the Library sub-committee and the collection committee, which selects the books to be purchased for the Robson library. She also works two shifts at the library and is an avid reader. This year Lorraine was a member of the Book Talk selection committee for Friends of the Library and was instrumental in selecting this book for discussion.
Published in 1953, Fahrenheit 451 was widely acclaimed, winning the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature and the Commonwealth Club of California Gold Medal in 1954. It later won the Prometheus “Hall of Fame” Award in 1984 and a “Retro” Hugo Award in 2004.
The book gives us reason to reflect on today’s society due to the fact that Bradbury’s insane world bears a striking resemblance to the world of today. This should lead to an interesting discussion among Robson residents.
If you haven’t read the book or do not remember it from a previous reading, please do so. However, those who have not read it are welcome to join us and take part in the discussion.
The library is located in the Creative Arts Center (CATC) building off Ed Robson Circle. Please have the pdk app or card ready to unlock the library door. The library is open daily from the hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Volunteer staff is available to help patrons on Mondays to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
