Over forty volunteers from Robson Ranch mentor 1st and 2nd grade children at two of Denton’s elementary schools. Mentors board school buses at Robson and are conveniently driven to Evers Elementary and Borman Elementary on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The school buses pick up at 9:30 a.m. and return usually by 11:15 a.m. For only an investment of of approximately one hour and forty five minutes once a week, mentors change children lives at one of the schools. The mentors come from all backgrounds and usually do not have a teaching background. Time is usually spent having children read or be read to. There is a great need by the children as the schools are designated as being up to 70% at risk. Borman Elementary recently received the prestigious International Baccalaureate designation, which aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Mr. Robert Gonzalez, principal at Borman, said mentors from Robson are “great contributors to our overall success.” If you would like to volunteer, please email *** Anderson at [email protected]. We have the need for more volunteers, and there is room on the bus for you! Make a difference in a child’s life!
