A labor of love

Vicki Baker

Always with her crochet needles in hand, Alice Uyeda crafts water bottle holders from recycled plastic bags. The carrier has a convenient sling shoulder strap and holds water bottles of various sizes. Each carrier requires at least 25 retail sized recycled plastic bags cut into one-inch wide strips, which are then crocheted into the finished product. Since it is made from plastic bags, you don’t have to worry about getting it wet from cold bottle condensation. Alice sells her water bottle holders at the Ranch craft fairs, but these can also be purchased anytime by contacting her directly.

But with Alice, her compassion for her community is always priority one. All proceeds from the sale of her water bottle holders are donated to the Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch. At its October 16 meeting she presented to the club a check totaling $200. Mother Teresa stated, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” No doubt she was speaking of Alice Uyeda.
