The Liberty Belles, the women of the Republican Club, have added a book club to their list of activities.
Given the current concerns about the education our country’s children are receiving, the group’s first selection was Battle for the American Mind, by Pete Hegseth and David Goodwin. In it, readers are introduced to the concept of paideia, which can be loosely defined as “enculturation” that represents “the rearing, molding, and education of a child.” It is the common vision of a cultural group about what constitutes a good life. Many of the values currently being promoted in schools are antithetical to conservative values, and the book club was surprised to learn that the roots of these philosophies reach back nearly 120 years! Any parent or grandparent who has questions about why and how school has changed so much since they, themselves, were students will find quite an education within the pages of this book. Highly recommended!
For the new year, the Belles have turned their attention to the topic of election integrity and have selected Molly Hemingway’s Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections as their next reading. They will be meeting in the latter half of January to discuss the book. If you are a member of the Republican Club and are interested in participating in the Liberty Belles book club, contact Gail Hanna at [email protected] for details.
Also, don’t forget that the Belles’ work with the Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center and the Twice as Nice resale boutique Denton is ongoing. For more information, contact Lisa Gollihar at [email protected] or Judy Martin-Tafoya at [email protected], or stop by the Liberty Belles table at the next meeting.
