There’s lots going on in the pottery studio! The Happy Potters welcomed another orientation class to learn the basics of working with clay, building their first pieces, and discovering the collegiality of the studio. Meanwhile, members of the previous orientation class moved on from slab building to getting their feet wet—along with their hands and arms—over a month of twice-weekly throwing classes as they learned to center and “open” clay on the pottery wheel to form bowls. Soon they’ll be working on even more advanced projects!
On Feb. 21 nearly 30 of our members enjoyed a full-day session with Barbara Frances, a “seasoned” potter from Waco, who gave a class on the construction of a lamp/vase and shared many helpful tricks of the trade. It’s a privilege to be taught by someone with her expertise, and it’s one of the special things about our club that we are able to provide these experiences for our members.
If you’re in the CATC, stop for a few minutes to admire the display in the showcase window in front of the studio. You’ll be amazed by the creativity of our members!
