Catholic Club News

The Robson Ranch Catholic Club met on Tuesday, April 12, in the Creative Arts building. The speaker for the evening was Dr. Kim Robinson. Dr. Robinson has had the joy and honor of working as a nurse, a licensed professional counselor, and a psychologist. She taught at Midwestern State University and in their Study Abroad Program in London, England, at Queen Mary University. While working in a private psychiatric hospital, she specialized in PTSD and trauma work when working on a military unit. She then worked for all four branches of the military as a contractor. She is currently adjunct faculty at the University of North Texas, part time. She also works with Ranch Hands Rescue, a sanctuary for humans and animals who have experienced trauma, where they offer trauma-informed therapies for trauma victims. In 2021 Ranch Hands Rescue opened the first safe house for male survivors of sex trafficking between the ages of 18 and 25, called Bob’s House of Hope. Dr. Robinson is currently a “train the trainer” and consultant for the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth for Child Sexual Abuse and Sex Trafficking.

Dr. Robinson shared with the group that traffickers can be anyone, and their victims can come from any walk of life. She also shared ways that traffickers manipulate their victims. They use tactics such as buying gifts or promises of things that seem too good to be true. Once under the control of the trafficker, they use tactics such as threats, physical violence, and starvation, or after getting their victim addicted to drugs, the drugs are withheld if the victim does not do what the trafficker wants. Dr. Robinson shared ways you can help fight human trafficking—ways such as learning to recognize the indicators of human trafficking by participating in human trafficking awareness training. This training is offered at many faith-based communities. Information can also be found online at sites such as www.sharedhope.org. Remember, if you see something, say something. The number for the National Human Trafficking Hotline is 888-373-7888. Please add this number to your contact list.

On a much happier note, the May 23 meeting of the Robson Ranch Catholic Club will be a social event held at the Wildhorse Grill. The menu will consist of a salad trio buffet, house salad with ranch and balsamic, chicken salad, pasta salad, rolls, assorted cookies, and water and tea station. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with the dinner buffet at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, and checks should be made out to RR Denton HOA and can be dropped off at 8501 Sterling Drive (box on potting bench in porch) or 10200 Countryside (basket by front door). Please plan on attending, and please feel free to invite friends and family. All are welcome.

Regular meetings will resume in September. Have a safe and blessed summer!
