Do you enjoy our library? Most of our residents do. But there are some who actually don’t know we have a library! If you think the library plays a meaningful role in our community, help assure its longevity and vitality by joining the 200 Friends of the Library (FOL). We have fun, but our mission is serious: to advocate for the library and assure broad awareness of it and its pivotal role in our community. Check out the Spotlight Window in the CATC to see what activities are going on. The library has three national and local daily newspaper subscriptions, puzzles, several computers with Internet access and, of course, books, books and more books. (Even large print and audio ones.)
It’s also a bustling place. During the FOL’s first year, we held three fascinating book discussions with attendance increasing each time. The next book discussion will review James Donovan’s Shoot for the Moon in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing in 1969. Moon Pies, moon-themed beer and the full-length movie, In the Shadow of the Moon, will also be featured! More activities are planned next year, so catch the fever now!
As the club’s first anniversary approaches, we’ve launched a membership drive running until our first annual meeting on July 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. If you value the library, join or renew your FOL membership now. Annual dues are only $10, and these funds are directed entirely toward maintaining and enhancing the library as a centerpiece of our community. Since receiving approval from the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization earlier in 2019, donations are tax exempt. At the annual meeting, new officers will be elected, status updates shared and suggestions solicited for new and engaging activities. You can also join or renew at that meeting. As a bonus to stimulate attendance at the annual meeting, gift certificates totaling more than $500 for favorite local businesses have been donated as prizes for the lucky winners of fifteen random drawings.
* Two $100 gift cards – one from Barley & Board and one from Hannah’s
* Four $50 gift cards – one each from The Wildhorse Grill, The Hillside Fine Grill (in Highland Village), The Classic (in Roanoke) and The Horny Toad
* Four $25 gift cards to Barnes & Noble
* Five grab bags, each including the book Shoot for the Moon to stimulate interest in the August book discussion
You must be a current member for the 2019-2020 year and be present at the time of the drawing to win! Go for it!
As always, a social will follow the meeting to enable patrons to get to know each other.
The FOL supports the library by bringing people together to expand our knowledge and ideas, to stimulate individual thought and interactions with one another and to provide a calm, relaxed social setting and quiet getaway.
Help sustain the library as a community engagement hub. Catch the fever!
