Selvi Palaniswamy is the founder and farmer of Sapling Farms. She was raised on a farm in India where she watched her parents grow seasonal crops all year long. She and her siblings would assist their parents in producing veggies to take to their local farmers market in the City of Oddanchatram, known as the vegetable capital of South India.
Her first lesson in farming was from her father who made her see the beauty of seeds that turned into plants that produced food for their community. Farming became Selvi’s passion at a very young age, but she never thought she’d continue following her family’s legacy as a farmer.
Her love for growing food traveled with her to the U.S. The language may have been new, but the land was not, so she began doing what she did best—growing produce. Her garden was never empty, and she learned how to grow veggies native to Texas. Her goal was first to provide her family with nutritious meals using her freshly grown produce, but soon after, she was serving neighbors and friends with the abundance. Her passion turned into a profession when she founded Sapling Farms in 2017, with a mission to grow produce using organic principles for a healthier earth and consummation.
Selvi now grows a wide variety of crops year round and includes many nutritious Indian greens and gourds and sells them in various markets in the DFW metroplex. For veggie lovers, she offers a weekly, customizable CSA Box where members get first pick from her harvest.
