Gun Club Women’s Group—Keeping Busy

Shoot Like a Girl!

Mary Ellen “Mel” Steibel

The Women’s Group has kept busy this winter. We have participated in several educational opportunities in addition to shooting with the Gun Club Paper Punchers and Sporting Clays groups. If these events sound interesting to you, please join us—we have over 100 members in the Women’s Group of the Robson Ranch Gun Club!

Several of us attended “Shoot Like a Girl” at Cabela’s Fort Worth. Their mission is to empower women to participate in shooting sports with confidence. We got to shoot pistols, rifles, and compound bow. It was fun and educational, and now some of us are hooked on archery!

Another group attended a Self Defense seminar taught by the Denton County Sheriff’s office, through their “Women’s Empowerment Program.” The objective of the seminar was to learn how to avoid dangerous situations, to recognize danger, and to learn how to defend yourself.

Additionally, we have attended monthly educational and shooting opportunities with local chapters of national organizations. Some attended the North Fort Worth chapter of “A Girl and a Gun,” and others went to the North Fort Worth chapter of “Armed Women of America.” Both meet monthly at Shoot Smart in Alliance, just minutes down I-35W.

Did you also know that there are training opportunities right here at the Ranch? These classes are facilitated by the Gun Club and taught by a certified instructor with Safe-2-Carry, LLC. Classes planned for the remainder of this year include: Basic Pistol, Texas License to Carry, Refuse to Be a Victim, and Basic Pistol Cleaning and Lubrication.

The mission of our Robson Ranch Gun Club is to provide an opportunity and forum for our members to meet, share interest in firearms, participate in various forms of shooting sports, and provide a learning environment for all skill levels of firearm ownership and uses. A club meeting is held on the second Tuesday of the month at the clubhouse. We are always looking for other Robson Ranch residents interested in joining in our great fellowship and learning about these fun and active shooting sports and skill practice opportunities. Safety is always our primary concern and is a shared responsibility of each member.
