There wasn’t a shortage of wagging tails—or smiling faces—at the Happy Tails Dog Club’s Bark and Brag meeting on Saturday, Aug. 8. While the dogs themselves stayed home, they were undoubtedly the stars of the morning as members proudly shared photos and heartwarming stories celebrating their four-legged family members.
From playful puppies to loyal senior dogs, every four-legged friend was a star. Members delighted in showcasing the unique personalities, funny antics, and heartwarming stories that make their dogs such treasured family members. Whether adopted from a shelter, rescued, or welcomed into the family as puppies, these lucky dogs are now living like kings and queens—and their owners wouldn’t have it any other way. The bond between Happy Tails members and their pets was evident throughout the morning, proving once again that while we may rescue our dogs, they often rescue us right back.
The excitement continues in September when members will welcome Brendon Cox, a Certified Behavior Specialist with Canine Dimensions. His presentation will help members better understand what their dogs are trying to communicate through their behavior. While our dogs may not speak like Dug from the movie Up, learning how they think and why they behave the way they do can strengthen the bond between pets and their families while providing valuable tools for addressing unwanted behaviors.
On Oct. 10, Happy Tails will hold a meaningful tradition—the Blessing of the Pets. Vic Norton, Dean at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church, will lead this special ceremony honoring the legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi, whose love for all creatures inspired this cherished tradition. Members are invited to bring their pets to receive a blessing celebrating the joy, companionship and unconditional love animals bring into our lives. Attendees are also encouraged to donate pet food, blankets, or towels to support a local animal shelter, helping extend that love to animals still waiting for their forever homes.
The giving spirit continues in Nov. with the annual Holiday Mini Photo Sessions, Happy Tails’ main fundraising event. The majority of the funds raised—along with a significant portion of membership dues—are donated to organizations that support animal welfare and community outreach. Giving back is central to the club’s mission of promoting education, fellowship, and responsible pet ownership while improving the lives of companion animals throughout the community.
To wrap up another wonderful year, members will gather in Dec. for the annual Holiday Party, an afternoon filled with friendship, laughter, delicious food, and holiday cheer. It’s the perfect way to celebrate another successful year of learning, giving back, and sharing a common love for man’s best friend.
More than just a club, Happy Tails is a welcoming community where dog lovers connect, learn, and celebrate the special bond they share with their pets. The club meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Room 103 of the CATC Building. Membership is just $10 per household annually, and all dog lovers are invited to join the fun, friendship, and fellowship.
