Happy Tails Dog Club had the honor of hosting Monica Ailey, president and co-founder of Animal Investigation & Response (AIR), along with volunteer Kim Meloncon, at their February meeting. AIR, a 501(c)(3) animal protection organization based in Argyle, Texas, assists law enforcement, animal control agencies, and communities in addressing animal abuse-related issues ranging from puppy mills to disaster relief efforts.

Formed by two certified animal cruelty investigators, AIR serves as a crucial link between agencies and resources, aiding in investigations and providing support beyond the local community’s capacity. Their services include educating communities on animal welfare laws, aiding law enforcement in building cases against abusers, running emergency shelters for seized animals, and facilitating placement with reputable rescue organizations.

Moreover, AIR boasts certified emergency responders capable of operating under national and state protocols during natural disasters. They offer communities resources, manpower, equipment, and veterinary support for emergency sheltering and reuniting lost animals with their owners, all at no cost to the requesting agency.

Members of Happy Tails Dog Club were treated to insights into AIR’s operations through videos showcasing various rescue missions. These included interventions, such as caring for 26 confiscated dogs in March of 2023, assisting in the seizure of over 400 animals from a pet store in February of 2023, and responding to a hoarding situation involving nearly 70 animals in July of 2023.

Highlighting the dedication of AIR’s volunteers, Happy Tails emphasized the ongoing need for support and encouraged individuals interested in volunteering to visit AIR’s website, animalinvestigationandresponse.org.

Happy Tails Dog Club participated in the Club Open House on March 9. Happy Tails Board members Char Niemi, Donna Steibel, Lorraine Wilson, and Sandy McAfee, manned the table to greet new Robson residents.

Additionally, the club announced plans for the April meeting featuring guest speaker Mary Ornberg, a talented videographer and fellow Robson resident. Mary will demonstrate how to create personalized movies from pictures and videos of friends, family, and pets, providing members with an exciting opportunity to showcase their cherished memories.
