Dana Bolin, volunteer for Our Daily Bread

When we moved out to Robson Ranch a year and a half ago I was already volunteering at Our Daily Bread soup kitchen in Denton and knew of many Robson residents who also shared my passion. After living here for a while I became absolutely amazed at the number of volunteers and supporters Our Daily Bread has out here at the Ranch! It is my honor and pleasure to begin featuring a new column highlighting the great volunteers at Robson as well as communicating to the residents the ongoing needs of the food insecure and homeless of Denton County. Look for your picture or a fellow neighbor’s who gives their time and talents to the less fortunate!

This month’s celebrated volunteer is Dana Bolin. Dana has lived at Robson for 12 years and hasvolunteered faithfully every Tuesday for 11 years! Dana volunteers as a program coordinator and helps Our Daily Bread patrons get food stamps, medical references and care, bus passes, shower passes, mail and more! Dana also served six years on the Board of Directors for Our Daily Bread making developmental changes that meet the needs of today’s patrons. Thank you, Dana, for your giving spirit! You are the kind of man that makes this world a better place!

When Dana isn’t at Our Daily Bread he can be found at Robson Ranch dancing across the tennis courts, singing in the choir and volunteering at other organizations that help Denton County.

Our Daily Bread started in the year 2000 as a mission for St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and served about 40 meals per day. Today Our Daily Bread has its own 501(c)(3) status and serves over 300 meals a day to the food insecure and homeless. ODB uses 37 volunteers a day to prep the food, wash dishes, pick up food donations and help our patrons get the vital services they need like showers, bus passes, laundry vouchers, food stamps and mail. ODB receives no government funding and relies on financial donations from community individuals and businesses to fund our efforts. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up for an orientation on the ODB website at www.ourdailybreaddenton.org. And at this time of year, donations of bottled water, bug spray and sunscreen are always needed by the patrons. Thank you!

Save the dates: You can support ODB by giving during North Texas Giving Day on September 14. ODB will also be holding its annual Hearts for the Hungry Gala here at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse this year on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
