Kiwanis Club Members Make Comfort Dolls

Kiwanis Club of Robson Ranch members are having another very successful year designing and assembling little hand-sewn and stuffed dolls. The group named them “Comfort Dolls,” because that’s just what they do—provide a snug-able doll to hug when the world is a scary place. The dolls are provided to various hospitals and other agencies where there is contact with kids in stressful health or emotional situations.

The group recently delivered 49 dolls to Presbyterian Hospital in Denton. The hospital staff was very excited to receive the dolls for their young patients.

Every fourth Wednesday of the month, a group of skilled ladies gather at the CATC to contribute to the Comfort Dolls project. Some sew the patterns at home, and then the group stuffs the patterns and traces new ones at the CATC. For special occasions, they create unique patterns like bunnies for Easter and gingerbread boys and girls for Christmas. They’ve even added some fun “cowboy” pillows!

Before the patterns can be stuffed, they’re given faces. These adorable faces are so sweet and cute that they would bring a smile to any child’s face. A member with special talents makes and irons on the faces each month. Once the dolls are ready, they are placed in a plastic bag to keep them fresh and clean.

As the group dedicates their time and skills to this heartwarming project, they also find joy in the camaraderie of working together. The Comfort Dolls project is always open to visitors who are interested in contributing to this inspiring cause. This is one of many service projects the Kiwanis Club does for the families and kids of Denton County.
