You read correctly—that’s Steppin’, as in Step Aerobics! Most of you will recall the ‘90s craze. Well, it’s back and offered here at the Ranch by our very own Pat Masters. Pat Masters greets every class with energy and contagious enthusiasm. Class starts promptly to the sound of upbeat music, and then Pat begins each class with “Ready? Let’s get Steppin’!”
Step Aerobics increases stamina, burns fat, and builds/tones muscle, all while keeping a cadence with the music. All you need is a step and your water (whew, you will need it). In fact, you can start without a step and just do the moves on the floor while you await delivery of your own step. Yes, they still make them, so if you don’t have one hidden away in an attic or closet, they are available at most sporting goods stores, or it’s even easier to order one on Amazon! Pat recommends standard length steps of 41 to 43 inches. This length allows participants to use all targeted muscle groups more effectively.
So, a bit more about our instructor Pat Masters. Pat is a 10-year RR resident, retired flight attendant, with 15 years of experience as a personal trainer. Pat has certifications in Les Mills Programs, Body Pump, RPM (cycle class), as well as spinning and PIYO (Pilates/yoga). Some of you may also recognize her from playing or giving lessons on the pickleball courts. Pat is highly enthusiastic about anything she puts her mind to, and leading the Step Aerobics class is no exception.
Classes are held in the multipurpose room in the Cimarron building from 1 to 1:50 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If you are an experienced stepper or just tend to pick up routines quickly, this is for you! If you want to start out a bit slower and work your way up, then start with Pat’s Beginner Step class offered on Thursdays from 2 to 2:50 p.m.
Here are a few comments from current steppers:
• “I noticed my balance and my energy level rising.” (Kim L.)
• “I lost weight in Bonnie’s class, but I’m definitely losing inches in your class.” (Valerie T.)
• “I thought when the music stopped and we kept going that I was listening to a Stomp performance. So cool! (Su B.)
• “Pat, I can honestly say you and your class are great. In fact, as good as I’ve attended in my 30-plus years of stepping.” (Tom D.)
Every now and then someone might mention the word “exercise,” but most forget and just think it’s fun! To get started, send a text to Pat at 314-920-1795. She will add you to the class roster and answer any questions. Or just show up at one of the times listed above, and she can add you then! The cost is $5 per class or $20 for 5 classes. Class is open to ladies and gentlemen! Join now!
