Material Girls have supported our Veterans for many years by creating and donating quilts to veteran groups. This year our donations went to a tiny house community, Serenity Veterans Village in Palmer Texas. This community provides transitional housing for up to eleven Veterans in ten tiny houses. Partnering with community resources, this not-for-profit aims to end homelessness of Veterans, provide employment opportunities for those able to work, care for vets experiencing PTSD and spread the word on the need for this type of organization. Lauren Andreade, founder, got the idea for SVV a decade ago when she was still a soldier. She says “When I got back from Iraq in 2010, within six months about three of the soldiers I was deployed with were homeless. I couldn’t do much to help them, but I decided if I ever had the means I would do this.”
Through the generosity of the Material Girls, we were able to make patriotic themed quilts and fabric goody bags with toiletries, snacks, and microwave bowl and drink cozies. Kathy Davis has led this effort for many years and along with Debi Davis spearheaded our efforts this year. Thanks to all the women that made quilts, fabric bags and gave cash to make this effort a success.
