The Material Girls of Robson Ranch gathered for a creative and educational sewing program led by Aprile Peishel, an experienced sewer and teacher. Aprile introduced the group to the “All Aboard Bag” pattern by ByAnnie.com—a stylish, functional project perfect for home or travel. The roomy bag can hold cosmetics, sewing notions, or first aid supplies, making it as practical as it is beautiful.

Aprile first presented the project on Aug. 20, explaining the required supplies, techniques, and pattern options—there were three sizes to choose from. She guided members through the initial steps and returned on Aug. 27 to help with some of the trickier parts of construction. Many participants appreciated her patience and expertise, especially when tackling the rounded edges and binding. Aprile also made herself available during the Sept. 3 regular meeting, where several ladies proudly completed their bags.

One of the most appealing features of the project was its simplicity—no hardware required! The bag’s design relied entirely on fabric, with a large double opening zipper for easy access. With Aprile’s guidance, every participant successfully finished her project, enjoying not only the sewing challenge but also the fellowship and camaraderie that make the Material Girls such a special group.

The Material Girls hosted another Project Program on Sept. 24. It featured Vickie Katz, who presented a session on quilted jackets. Vickie discussed patterns, supplies, and techniques for creating beautiful, wearable art. She will also be available during First Saturday Sewing (9 a.m. to noon in CATC Room 104) to assist members as they assemble their jackets.

The Material Girls meet every Thursday for early sewing beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by a program at 1 p.m. Charity Sewing is offered every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, where members work together on projects benefiting local charities. First Saturday Sewing takes place in the CATC Room 104 from 8 a.m. to noon, welcoming sewers, quilters, and fabric aficionados to share fellowship and creative inspiration.

The Material Girls continue to combine creativity, learning, and friendship—one stitch at a time.
