On Saturday, April 29, the Men’s Golf Association kicked off their tournament season with the annual Robson Cup. There were 84 golfers for this event, and some unusually cold and very windy weather greeted them on Saturday morning at the range. Kevin Buckrucker, Robson Ranch tournament director, kicked off the tournament with opening comments and tournament rules and flight pairings.

The Robson Cup is played with five flights separated by handicaps. However, the Robson Cup Champion is the player with the lowest net score from all six flights.

The first day proved challenging for most players due to winds that ranged from 20 to 40 mph. Individual records were set by several individuals but, unfortunately, they were for highest score on an individual hole—double digits were seen on numerous scorecards. It was still a great day and ended on the patio with a keg of beer and the typical stories of what could have been if ….

Sunday proved to be a complete reversal, with sunny skies, warm temperatures, and minimal wind. There seemed to be a lot more smiles on faces due to improved scores at the after-party where beer and hamburgers were served. There were still the same stories about what could have been if …. But that’s golf, and that’s why we keep coming back.

When the scores were tallied, the new 2023 Robson Cup Champion was Steve Remley who shot -9 (net) for both days. Steve had an outstanding tournament and cruised to the Championship with a six-stroke margin. This was Steve’s first tournament win at Robson Ranch. Congratulations!

Individual flight winners were as follows:

Flight 1: Chris Chapman +3

Flight 2: Llynal Carey +5

Flight 3: Steven Johnston +1

Flight 4: Larry Voliva -2

Flight 5: Raymond Rice -3

Flight 6: Steve Remley -9

It was a great tournament, as Kevin Buckrucker, Tim Hughes, and Kevin Murphy did an outstanding job organizing our first tournament. And thanks to Craig Pullen, our club pro, for assisting with rule questions and scoring.

The next Men’s Golf Association tournament was a Member/Member event on June 3 and 4. It was an exciting tournament where members paired together and played multiple formats throughout the weekend, like the Ryder Cup. It tested their skills and their friendship—all in good fun!
