Mission Accepted by Sassy Stampers

The scorching heat index had Stampers fleeing in search of cooler temperatures in Room 104 of the CATC for the August meeting. The business side of the meeting was packed full of information before we got to the fun stuff of learning new techniques and making a new card.

Our project lead for this month’s Pop-n-Flip card was Diana Krug. This fun card included stamping, scoring, die cutting, coloring, gluing, and learning how to make a card have a pop-out when opened.

Table teachers were instrumental in giving the instructions and acknowledging we needed concentration in making the proper measurements for die cuts and score lines and be aware of where you glued the pop-up and die cuts—in other words, best you hold down the chit-chat, ladies, so you don’t get distracted. The old rule of thumb “measure twice, cut once” is a standard for sewing and woodworking, and it also goes for card making. This Stamper has ruined a few cards trying to rush things and not fully understanding what the end goal is. There were many smiling faces with the outcome of their creation.

The business part of the meeting provided updates on:

• The timing of new access to the interior rooms of the CATC that will need the app or key card to open the doors.

• Thank you to all for the cards received for the Justin Food Bank. The donations provide the children of the food bank recipients to shop for birthday and Christmas cards, along with picking out gifts for their family and teachers. The gifts donated are made by many of the clubs at Robson.

• Holiday planning is underway.

• Gift card drawings were held for anyone bringing a card for our window and monthly volunteers.

• Next month, window cards were solicited to be in colors of purple, greens, orange—Halloween colors.

• Discussions about the SOT Christmas card and card donations for the SOT auction.

• Approving the mission statement for Sassy Stampers that was unanimously passed.

“The mission of Sassy Stampers is to foster community, fellowship, and friendship among Robson Ranch residents who gather together for learning and sharing their card making skills and techniques. The organization is also committed to community service by providing greeting cards for birthdays, mothers-to-be, and Christmas cards for our military and their families; local food bank recipients; and underprivileged school children in Denton County.”

Our mission statement truly embodies what Sassy Stampers is about and the bond that ties us all together. On that day when there is time to kill, stop by the CATC and peek at the Sassy Stampers window to see the fruits of labor made with love of this stamping community.
