Motorcycle Club: Temperatures Down, Kickstands Up!

Overlook at Mount Magazine

Stan Brein

Ah, fall! The die-hards ride in all weather, including the furnace of summer. Unfortunately, it just lasts too long in Texas. But riding in fall is superb. Crisp mornings give way to pleasant midday temperatures and sunny skies—perfect for cruising and eating at your favorite spots.

The journeys this month kicked off with a nice ride north on Sept. 7 to Lucy’s on the Square in Celina. Road captains were Dave Riddle and John Tuttle.

Branson, Mo., has become an annual pilgrimage that we eagerly look forward to. Mike Conley took on the road captain duties for the Sept. 14 to 19 journey. LT and Mary Bryant, Ron Bane, Marti Conley, Steve and Beth Collins, Doug and Karen Henderson, Robert and Nancy Whipple, and Barbara and Eddie Schmidt were the fortunate ones this time.

The outgoing route went from the Ranch to Mena, Ark., through Mount Magazine to Hot Springs, and then on to Branson. Based on the pictures and the texts, they were having a blast—seeing some amazing places on great roads, enjoying superb weather, and having some good food. Some of the riders enjoyed The SIX Show (a powerhouse vocal band) at the American Bandstand Theater, or Sight and Sound Jesus. In addition to shopping (Dick’s Five and Dime in Downtown Branson is one of my favorites), shows, and good food, there was a beautiful day ride through Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. The return ride meandered through Bentonville to visit the Walmart Museum, and then to Fort Smith and home again. Another great long-distance club excursion.

Coming up is the ride to Granbury on Nov. 11-12. Murder on the Orient Express at the Granbury Opera House and dinner at Farina’s Winery and Café is in the plan.

Then comes the highlight of the year, the Robson Ranch Motorcycle Club Holiday Party on Dec. 1 at the GreenHouse Restaurant in Denton.

Once again, the Motorcycle Club will be participating in the Denton County Coats for Kids Ride (www.coatsforkidsride.com) on Sunday, Nov. 27. Children in all of the school districts of Denton County will be able to receive a new coat, thanks to the generosity of local motorcyclists and their supporters. We will gather at North Central Texas College in Corinth at 8:30 a.m. and ride to the Truck Yard in the Colony at 11 a.m. There will be music, food, and fun for all. Come on out, even if you don’t ride.

We are in difficult times. Since 2011, we have collected 19,103 new coats for Denton kids. Robson Ranch has been very generous with their donations in the past, and we want to continue our support this year. Please consider purchasing a coat in your upcoming shopping excursions. Encourage your friends, neighbors, and members of other clubs to which you belong to do the same. For additional information or to drop off a coat, contact Stan Brein at [email protected] or any board member or club member.

See you on the road!

Beware of cagers, and keep the rubber side down.
