News from the Living Well Committee

The teasing of cooler air in mid-October signified the oncoming of seasonal changes—Daylight Savings Time—Nov. 6, giving us one more hour of daylight, including colorful landscapes, the aroma of turkey roasting in the oven, and feasting with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. This gives us pause to remember the Pilgrims and other early heroes of American history who celebrated Thanksgiving, grateful for their journey and perseverance to the Americas against all odds. Let us, too, remember our triumphs, falls, and successes and give thanks for God’s blessings as we celebrate Thanksgiving.

Our thanks to all the 161 residents who participated in our annual Olympics and to our fabulous Living Well Committee members who put together the special event. Our survey showed positive responses to the games and lunch, with few suggestions that will be addressed for next year’s Olympics.

Thank you, Dan Ballenger, for providing our residents with your presentation on Medicare on Oct. 6. If you missed it, you could view the session on our website, rrlwc.com. Our webmaster Marcia has added a calendar of events to our site for a quick view of all events and presentations coming up. Take a photo and keep it on your phone as a reminder of each event, so you won’t miss one. We are striving to bring you all or most of our presentations on the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. for better consistency. Please check our fabulous website, rrlwc.com, and mark your calendars.

We also want to thank all those who participated in the Living Well Robson Ranch Cancer Support Group who sponsored the Cancer Walk on Oct. 15. It was well received with approximately 131 participants, plus other donations. All proceeds benefited the Texas Oncology Foundation with assistance to cancer patients and their families in this area.

Jennifer Bumpus from Wise Health System presented, “How to Achieve your Health Goals” on Oct. 27, a reminder to drink and eat in moderation, especially during these holiday times.

On Nov. 4 Matt and Kathrine Lawrence provided tips and recipes on “Immune Boosters.” This was a cooking demonstration for residents only.

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, at noon, a special speaker event will include Christa Zuniga who owns and operates Eat Your Green. She specializes in high-density, nutrient-dense microgreens.

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, at 8 a.m., come on out for our annual “Turkey Trot,” meet our Robson Ranch mascot Geraldine Gawle, and take an exhilarating walk with Gil Clifton. All participants will receive banderas.

There will be no special Living Well events in December. It’s a busy time for all of us.

Thank you from each of the HOA Living Well Committee members for the privilege of your time and participation in all our past events.

Happy Thanksgiving! Be well and safe if your holiday involves travel.
