Over $10,000 raised for diabetes

Barbara Holst

Wow! When the Wildhorse Lady Niners decided to host a 9-hole charity tournament this year, their goal was $9,000; at the end of the day, the WLN wrotea check to the Diabetes Education and Caring Center in Denton for $10,532.41!

The planning began with the usual events – soliciting sponsors, selling 50/50 raffle tickets and mystery bags, and the recruitment of players. The fees paid by the participants paid for the prize money and expenses, while all other money raised was donated directly to the Diabetes Caring Center.

Kim Rasche from Presbyterian Hospital was on hand to welcome and thank the participants for playing and supporting the tournament. She also encouraged the sales of the popular Mulligan packages that included a try at the putting contest. David Bowles supported the charity by offering t-shots on No. 8 for $5 per person.

Dennis Thomas was the big winner of the 50/50 raffle with cash winnings of over $900. Dennis was a very happy golfer.

The tournament paid for three places this year:

1st, Cindy and Rick Sterling, Gale and Doyle Hicks.

2nd, Patti Scott, Larry Dougherty, Wayne Beeler, and Alan Smith.

3rd, Carolyn Thomas, Paul Manzke, Karen and Dennis Thomas.

Rose Depoe and Gary Gordon were the winners for the putting contest.

A huge thank you to the WLN Charity Tournament Committee: Carolyn Thomas, Jane Thompson, Tina Hoffenberg, Janie Farnsworth, Janie Cindric, Jackie Maurer, Ana Corey, Barb Holst, Stacie Brown, and to our sponsors.

Thanks to all for our success.
