Pilot Knob Rotary Club Assists with Maintaining Champion-Macedonia Cemetery

Pat Henderson

In January of 2025, members of the Pilot Knob Rotary Club built and placed 100 white crosses on unmarked graves at Champion-Macedonia Cemetery in Lewisville, Texas. This African American/slave cemetery has graves dating back to the 1800s, with many of the graves being simply marked with a grouping of rocks. We teamed with Victoria Myers, a high school senior who chose the cleanup and upkeep of the cemetery as her individual Girl Scout-approved project toward a Gold Award. She asked Pilot Knob Rotary to assist with her project, and we were all in.

Club members David Ford and Web Bliss routinely check on the condition of the cemetery as one of our ongoing service projects. They recently identified a few crosses needing some maintenance. On Feb. 20 club members David Ford, Web Bliss, David Bragg, Rob Crosby, and Jim Snyder assembled and painted 19 replacement crosses for the cemetery. The placement of these crosses demonstrates our dedication to maintaining the dignity of Champion-Macedonia Cemetery.

Pilot Knob Rotary Club is a group of experienced professional leaders committed to service and fellowship, leading to a positive impact on our community and the world. We meet each Friday at noon at the Wildhorse Grill.
