Every year, we always make New Year’s Resolutions to be fitter and healthier, then we promptly forget about them by the second week of January. If you attend the January luncheon of the Robson Ranch Women’s Club on Jan. 3 (doors open at 11 a.m., and lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.), you will be inspired to keep that resolution by Bonne Fickey, a Robson resident who has inspired others for more than 26 years as a fitness instructor. You will also be treated to a wonderful meal of orange-glazed sesame chicken, fried rice, Asian vegetables, and banana pudding.
Bonnie has been a nationally-certified group fitness instructor for over 26 years at fitness centers in the Denton County area. She also has been a certified personal trainer for the past four years. Her certifications include Professional Group Fitness Instructor, Strength and Sports Conditioning Coach, Active Aging Fitness Coach, Fall Prevention Coach, Senior Fitness, and Functional Stretching for Longevity. She held management positions as the Director of Group Fitness at Texas Women’s University Wellness Center and Elite Fitness. She has used all of her experience and training to teach a variety of “FUN’ctional” group exercise formats here at Robson Ranch.
Bonnie’s personal experience of being raised by her grandparents has encouraged her to focus on leading the over-50 active aging population towards a strong feeling of self-efficacy and helping to improve their activities of daily living safely and efficiently. She wants to see them moving effectively and aging strong. She says, “Teaching is not a job for me. It’s a fun way to meet new friends and interact with an amazing group of people who are 50 or older, and I love the positive energy they bring to class and witnessing the positive changes they have made.”
The charity of the month for January is the Denton Community Food Center.
Your 2022 membership dues can be paid at the luncheon. The dues will remain at $15.
