Motorcycling is just plain fun. The enjoyment of the riding experience is unparalleled. First, there is the anticipation of the ride itself. There is all the preparation process of getting ready for the ride: readying yourself; the motorcycle and making the plans. The ride itself always has something to look forward to. Having a great destination adds to the fun and enjoyment.
In April we had the opportunity to venture out to Scott and Mary Loftis’ property in Rhome, Texas. Ride captain Carrylyn Jacobs led us to the promised land. The 20–acre spread is beautiful. Mary and Scott built a barn on the land and they have room to store everything one would need to have a rollicking time. We were greeted by the amply stocked refrigerator. If you couldn’t find a suitable beverage, you just weren’t thirsty. Having a chance to look around we saw a pickup truck that was older than most of the club members, and a motorcycle in the loft that had us wondering how it got there.
Then the main event. Scott showed off his obviously well-honed culinary skills. It was difficult to decide which entrée was best. But the brisket, ribs and chicken were all absolutely delicious. Combined with all the standard fixings’ it led to great conversation, great interactions and a wonderful meal. A few of the hardy tried the driving range (golf); As an added bonus captain Jacobs demonstrated her skill at the dart board, certainly honed through many nights of practice in dark dart emporiums!
We were just getting started as Scott offered us four wheeler tours of the property. We sped off on the flat land and descended into steep and long trenches that Scott had dug on the property. This motorcycle rider was excited! The seemingly 70 degree inclines were no match for the power of the four wheel drive ATVs. Lunch was well digested. Good talk, good stories and good fellowship.
From all of us in the club: Thank You Scott and Mary for a fantastic day of fun!
Spring and summer riding season are here and the schedule is full of great opportunities. April 29 will be our next RRMC Board meeting where all these great activities are conjured up and planned. May 2 to 6 brings the always enjoyable hill country ride, led by ride captain Ron Bane. Ron has found a great airbnb that has pickleball, a hot tub, laser tag, dodgeball, a beach, corn hole and kayaking. This is in addition to getting to ride on the great hill country roads, including three twisted sisters!
In June, Robert Whipple will lead us to the Preston farm trail café in Gunter for breakfast. That will lead us up to the July fourth parade where we can shine up and show off our rides.
See you on the road!
Beware of cagers and keep the rubber side down.
