Sixty-two individuals who comprise part of the RRWGA stepped onto the golf course on Aug. 15 to play in the annual Member/Member Tournament. The weather was much cooler than more recent days, with a high of only 99 degrees and that morning a downright cold 72 degrees. This was a welcome remembrance of previous cooler days!
It is the members who are the building blocks of this growing organization, now 160 strong, and these ladies exhibit what it means to be a member. The event solidifies the unity of our association and gives all members a chance to play in a fun format, which enhances individual skill, course management, and strategy. The format was the 6-6-6 format, alternate shot, best ball, and scramble. The following members demonstrated on this day that they were more than up to “par”:
Flight 1: First place Okcha Cummings and Sue Galinski, second place Val Bottoms and Diane Bent, third place Kerri Kay and Sheri Watkins; Flight 2: First place Sandy Ziegler and Kay McKie, second place Jennifer Orsbun and Susan Miloser, third place Kathy Calloway and Becky Kendall; Flight 3: First place Yvonne Callaway and Diana Warner, second place Jackie Williams and Chris Root, third place Judy Markley and Mo Fitzgerald.
Lunch followed the event with a build your own Mediterranean protein bowl with grilled chicken, kalamata olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and quinoa, served with flatbread and hummus and a signature special drink.
The RRWGA also celebrated teachers, as this was the first week of school. Many schools celebrate going back to school with the students. Since it is the tradition of the RRWGA to empower each other and other women, the association decided to celebrate teachers. WGA member Pat Sands’ daughter is a teacher at a Title 1 school in Denton, so we asked our members to help celebrate these teachers at this Title 1 school by giving a donation (cash or check) on the morning of the Member/Member Tournament. With the funds raised, the WGA will buy snacks and supplies for this Title 1 school’s Teachers’ Lounge in Denton. Ben E. Keith Company has offered the snacks at wholesale, so the $600 donated will go a long way to ensure the teachers know how much they are appreciated throughout the school year.
Next year we will surely remember this Member/Member as a “hot one!” We hope cooler temps prevail in 2024 while our clubs remain “hot.”
