Support Our Troops

Lynne Moore

Support Our Troops (SOT) had its monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 10. We were happy to have many members attend, and we look forward to upcoming events. In November will be our big fundraiser on Veterans Day, our Annual Silent Auction. We know so many of you look forward to this day and the wonderful items you can purchase. We also appreciate the numerous businesses that donate great items for the Auction. More information will come out next month, as well as online. Last year the Auction raised over $40,000 for the troops.Thank you Robson Ranch.

Year to date we have sent 188 boxes to deployed troops. Our shipment teams have spent about $20,000 on those boxes. Right now we have 10 deployed troops serving in Korea, Italy, the UK, Belgium, Waters, and undisclosed locations. The Sassy Stampers designed wonderful cards that SOT members write thank you notes on to troops abroad as well as in the USA. We often get wonderful thank you notes from the troops for the goodies that are shipped, as well as the cards.

The Argyle Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) met on Aug. 16 at the Ranch. These are high school students from Argyle who come with their Moms every month. They write letters to the troops, as well as listen to a speaker. This month’s speaker was an Army veteran.

We also support a wonderful organization in Texas called Patriot Paws. They train dogs to be given to Veterans in need. You may remember that one of the dogs was named for Rhett, our general manager, as a thank you from them to Robson Ranch. Rhett, the dog, has been successfully placed with a Veteran and his family.

For those of you who need an American flag for your lawn, we offer flag kits. They will be installed by a member of SOT. The kits cost $60, and we use only American made flags. If you already have a flagpole installed and need a new flag, they can be ordered for $30 and will be delivered to you. The person to call is Quinn Sowell at 940-231-9647.

SOT also maintains the Veterans Park located between the Wildhorse Grill and the Robson Ranch Clubhouse  This honors those Veterans from the past, including World War II until the present. SOT sells and installs commemorative bricks in the park and orchestrates services on Memorial Day and on Veterans Day. There is still more space available for more honorees. If you or a close family member wants to install a brick, order forms are available near the HOA desk in the Clubhouse under the SOT Tribute Book. You can also order forms on our website: www.supportourtroopstexas.com/veteranspark.

SOT meets monthly on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Clubhouse. You do not have to be a veteran to attend a meeting or to join SOT and we look forward to having you become part of our group.
