Pat Wilson
Wine tasting with a Halloween feel was held at the home of Donn and Pat Wilson on Tuesday, 10/21/2014. In an attempt to identify the best of the best, the theme for the evening was Previous Winners. Everyone was asked to bring a wine that had been picked as a winner throughout the year. Since it was a very pleasant evening, tables were set up on the patio to enjoy the changing October weather. A few Jack-o-lanterns and luminaries helped to set the mood. The group was excited to welcome another couple to the Tuesday Tasters, Frank and Nancy Freisheim. Frank and Nancy bring our group total to 22 members.
There were four wines to be tasted along with five delicious appetizers. The wines were Napa Cellars Merlot from CA, Whole Cluster from the Willamette Valley and Kirkland Malbec from Argentina. It was a close competition since all the wines were winners, but first place went to 2011 Dead Bolt, a winemaker’s blend bottled by Deadbolt Wines in Hopland, CA. A rich, round, and opulent red, it is full of rich fruit flavors with a long textured finish. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petit Sirah and Shiraz is so delectable, smooth and satisfying you’ll wonder why you’d ever pay more for a great everyday red. It’s priced anywhere from $13-$16/bottle.
This night the wine was furnished by Vicki Moses. Susan Milosar joined Vicki in the picture because Dead Bolt was originally presented to the group by Mike and Susan at our May tasting.
Guests finished off the evening with apple pie, whipped cream and coffee.
