Unveiling Heroism: Carol Miller, U.S. Army Veteran, to Inspire Us All

Carol Miller in Maui orienting a new volunteer, Willy, to a shelter

In a celebration of resilience and dedication, on April 5 at 10 a.m. in the Robson Clubhouse, Women Sharing Hope would like to introduce you to a Robson resident hero, Carol Miller, a distinguished 30-year U.S. Army veteran who will share her experiences.

Join us for an inspiring morning filled with stories of courage, service, and a life dedicated to making a difference because of her faith, love, and trust in her Lord, along with her desire to protect the citizens of the United States and beyond.

A seasoned registered nurse with a remarkable 58-year career, Carol’s experience spans across various clinical settings—from labor and delivery to emergency care, geriatric long-term care, and serving as an EMT and paramedic instructor. Her diverse background showcases her versatility and adaptability in the field of healthcare. Her roles also extended to being a school nurse and a director of community health and adult day services, highlighting her holistic approach to healthcare. However, Carol’s service goes beyond the medical field. During her three-decades-long tenure in the Army Reserve, she ascended to the rank of Civil Affairs Brigade Commander, a testament to her.

Carol sort of retired in 2004, but her dedication to the nation did not end with her retirement. She seamlessly transitioned into a role as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross, where she actively participates in disaster relief efforts, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters, starting with support for Hurricane Katrina. Since then, she has deployed to over 45 national disasters, taking on various roles such as disaster health nurse, Integrated Care and Condolence Team Leader, disaster instructor, and Disaster Operations Manager.

In a recent deployment this past fall, Carol spent six weeks in Maui, supporting efforts during the wildfires. Her role as the Individual Disaster Care Chief involved coordinating disaster health, mental health, and spiritual care services for both clients and disaster responders. Her ability to navigate complex and challenging situations showcases her resilience and commitment to providing care in times of crisis.

Two years ago, Carol became an integral part of Women Sharing Hope (WSH), as a coordinator for the Widows Sharing Hope Program at Robson. Her involvement in the community and dedication to supporting those in need has made her a beloved figure among the members.

Women Sharing Hope encourages everyone to attend this unique event. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, a glimpse into a life of service, or a morning of empowerment, Carol’s story promises to leave an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to hear it firsthand.
