Bert Zeitlin – Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

2 (10 oz.) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough

2 large Granny Smith apples

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 (12 oz.) can or bottle of Mountain Dew

Ice cream (optional)

Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°. In a saucepan, melt butter add sugar and add cinnamon. Heat and stir until mixed. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Set aside. Peel and core the apples and cut each into 8 slices. Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles and roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the smallest end. Pinch to seal and place in the baking dish. Pour the butter, cinnamon and sugar mixture over the apple dumplings and then pour Mountain Dew over the dumplings. Bake 35-45 minutes in the preheated oven or until golden brown. Top with vanilla ice cream, if desired. When preparing, you can also cut the crescents and apple slices in half again to make smaller dumplings.
