The first Newbies social of 2024 took place on April 18 at the Wildhorse Grill Patio, with nearly 50 wonderful neighbors in attendance. The Newbies enjoyed the evening exchanging stories, experiences, resource recommendations, and contact information. We socialized with beverages on the patio, and many took advantage of the Grill’s nacho special and the weather, dining al fresco.
Floy Biggs, Newbies event coordinator, arranged for several RR club representatives to speak briefly about their activities, including:
• Classic Rock Club: Darryl Williams and Jay Vandenbree, who raffled off two sets of tickets to upcoming popular, on-site concerts!
• Women’s Club: Lisa Olson
• Pickleball Club: Kathleen Raices and Barry Samuelson
• Garden Club: Erminja Maganja
Newbies is the name of our RR community Facebook group. Despite the name, we have “new” Newbies, who have just moved in, to “old” Newbies, who have been here for years and can help guide and answer the myriad of questions about all things Robson. This includes recommendations for contractors, personal services (hair, housekeepers, doctors), restaurants—you name it!
Our Newbies Facebook group was founded by then-newcomers Pat Garrett and Connie Catlett in 2021. During their new-build process, they both had questions about all sorts of things and figured that others were in the same predicament. Determined to connect with others and help make a smoother transition for other newcomers to the Ranch, they created the Newbies group as a place to share information and, importantly, to help people connect and create a community.
Our group now numbers just over 1,000, with a wonderful, eclectic blend of members who generously share their opinions and wisdom, favorite places and resources, and often lend a helping hand to inquiring neighbors. Many Facebook subgroups have formed for various new units where the group interaction can be more personal and specific.
We invite you to join our Facebook group named “Newbies in Robson Ranch in Texas.” The only requirement is to be a current resident of RR. The group administrators carefully vet each join request to keep out scammers.
