Angels and Art Deco at Bass Hall, Oh My!

Celia Hall

The Rockin’ Reds put on our walking shoes and had a fantastic day touring the iconic Bass Hall in Fort Worth. The beautiful art deco facility is home to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera, and The Cliburn. In addition, Performing Arts Fort Worth presents national Broadway touring productions, as well as stellar musical performances, comedy acts, and other family-friendly productions.

Bass Hall is a remarkable art deco venue, which occupies a full city block and is characteristic of the classic European opera house. Most notable are the two 48-foot-tall angels that grace the Grand Façade, and from the moment we entered, we were wowed by the individually cut Italian marble floor tiles (no two are identical) and the ceilings painted in laurel leaves. The docent-led tour was an enriching experience, giving us specifics about the design and creation of this beautiful facility.

After the tour, we traveled to BJ’s Restaurant at Heritage Trace for lunch. The event was hosted by Margot Kalina (a docent herself for the past 11 years), Stephanie Miyake, and Jennifer Rahn.
