The Robson Ranch Community Choir charmed the audiences with two magical concerts on Dec. 16 and 17. The choir began with a joyful call to come, gather, and adore in the hymn “O Come All Ye Faithful,” which set the tone for the jubilation to come. The traditional “A Celtic Noel” with its twisting melody and frolicking orchestration had everyone blissfully entertained. Then the exciting “Fum Fum Fum” left the audience stunned at the pace of the delightful tune. Everyone was a rockin’ to the first rock and roll song written, “Jingle Bell Rock.” Yes, the old folks still got it! The choir had great fun when the choir’s Mike Simms played the Grinch as they sang “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” You will be hard-pressed to find a better rendition of “The First Noel,” arranged by Mack Wilberg and performed by the choir with astounding clarity. Just before intermission, “Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy” was conveyed with all the excitement of seeing the star and rejoicing.
The second half of the concert continued to amuse and delight. After “Carol of the Bells” was performed with the utmost clarity and precision, the choir sang “A Holly Jolly Christmas.” Well, they sang and played instruments, just as I promised. The men and women took turns playing a verse of the song with kazoos! The audience was, of course, mesmerized to witness such profound talent! After all that hilarity, the musicians had a time to shine when they performed “O Come O Come, Emanuel,” featuring a euphoric violin by Diego Campos which left us all breathless. A heavenly arrangement of “O Little Town of Bethlehem” enchanted, bringing nearly all to tears. Then the audience sang along in singing “Silent Night,” led by Belba Beckham, while the choir sang “Peace Peace.” The concert ended with a jubilant “Hallelujah” from Messiah.
The choir always sets a goal to elate, entertain, and delight our audience. This concert, we believe, did that. From the start, the music had its own charisma that charmed the listeners, making the concert something truly magical.
The choir will next perform on April 20 and 21. This will be a monumental concert, as we celebrate our 20th year! You will surely not want to miss it. So, mark your calendars now.
